“Concept Korea”
Takes On New York Fashion Week for the Fifth Time
This year, five highly talented Korean fashion designers have been chosen by the Concept Korea initiative to show their collections at New York Fashion Week. These designers were selected to represent the Republic of Korea and to educate the fashion community of the growth of the global fashion industry. Concept Korea’s goal is to aid Korean designers in their challenges of reaching success in overseas fashion markets, specifically for the Fall/Winter 2012 season. This year’s Korean representatives are DO HO, Lee Juyoung of Resurrection, Lie Sang Bong, Son Jung Wan, and Steve J & Yoni P – who will all be showing during Fashion Week. The inspiration of these collections is drawn from an East Asian painting method called “Ink Wash Painting.” In this technique, once a stroke is painted, it cannot be altered or removed. To be successful in ink wash painting, one must be highly trained and greatly skilled. These top five designers will showcase their take of this ancient art form. Concept Korea, which began in the spring of 2010, is a collaborative project produced to support Korean fashion. This marks the fifth New York Fashion Week that Concept Korea will be showing at.
