Another Thrilling Day at London Fashion Week

Peter Pilotto

Peter Pilotto’s Fall 2012 collection was an interesting and eclectic mix of scuba inspired silhouettes adorned in futuristic prints. These prints gave the styles a desired cold-weather splash, along with the trusty help of structured outerwear and multi-colored fur. Yellow florals enhanced the underwater themed palette of blues, greens, and grays. Slim, nearly streamlined pants in digital like prints and cutout dresses at the neck and bodices were amongst the collection’s highlights. Velvet detailing and beading work gave this collection a definite luxury vibe.

Erdem

Designer Erdem Moralioglu dappled in the darker side for this Fall 2012 collection. Overall, the collection was dark but delicate – keeping all of Erdem’s signatures in tact. Soft laces, coy hemlines, and wistful florals all swept down the London runway. Enter the darkness, which was absolutely felt in the latex-coated tweeds, splatter prints inspired by artist Pollock, and sharply shaped leather. The designer explained that this season was focused on the woman, and not the girl.

Pringle of Scotland

Alistair Carr played with the rebellion factor for this Fall 2012 collection. He toughened up the classic schoolgirl styles, making them deconstructed and vivid. The classic pleats were replaced with architectural layers. This type of architecture was also noted in the coats, which were impeccably tailored. A majority of the silhouettes were asymmetrical. The color palette was cozy for the fall; lots of camel, navy, black, and brown nicely contrasted by crimson and orange. The collection was classy, which is exactly what we’d expect from this 200 year-old Scottish brand.

McQ by Alexander McQueen

McQ’s Fall 2012 collection was triumphant and theatrical. Burton described the collection as “A love story, a long of McQueen and a love of great British style – from military coats to overblown ball gowns.” The show was enhanced with autumn leaves and a wintery forest. Sarah Burton designed some amazing colorblocked coats done just right as well as embellished velvet frocks, tartans, and a surprise element of tulle.

Christopher Kane

Christopher Kane’s Fall 2012 collection was contemporary, refined, and cool. This collection was full of surprises; from lacquered leopard print to iridescent purple, it was a strange mix that resulted in a very fashionable assortment. Velvet moiré prints, and slick leather accents made the collection more edgy than chic. Only Christopher Kane could tap into all of these elements during the creation of his collection. The collection combined Japanese references with gothic, British youth. The pieces felt futuristic but also very signature: Kane.
