London Fashion Week: Collection Highlights
Jonathan Saunders
Jonathan Saunders was inspired by a variety of muses for his Fall 2012 collection. The Wong Kar-wai film, In The Mood for Love, and the works of Charlotte Perriand, Vanessa Beecroft and David Hockney were amongst these inspirations. The collection showcased frocks, equestrian-style coats, and flared skirts. The color palette was elegant and passionate: metallic jewel tones brightened up with some vivid colors. Saunders wanted the woman of this collection to be seen as “very wealthy, eccentric, and youthful.”

Issa London
Daniella Helayel’s Fall 2012 collection was 1970’s inspired really had something for everything. The designer described the collection as “Russian doll meets James Bond” and was designed to be representative of a “journey from Moscow to Beijing.” A preppy vibe was felt in capes, perfectly tailored wools, and cableknits. The preppy attitude was nicely contrasted by some more bohemian styles. Paisley prints were seen in on long, flowing maxi dresses. The collection’s highlight was definitely a red lace gown with long-sleeves.

Richard Nicoll
Richard Nicoll’s Fall 2012 was inspired by Jacques Tati’s 1967 comedic film Play Time. This made this his collection futuristic and industrial-inspired. This collection had uncomplicated silhouettes, reminiscent of utilitarian workwear. The designer really focused on streamlined shift dresses, leather accent pieces, and other pleated dresses. The palette was rather monochromatic, spiced up with tangerine and cobalt. Some collection highlights were the mohair knits, soft, rich, leathers and vibrant color pops.

Mulberry
Where the Wild Things Are and The Lost Explorer inspired Mulberry’s Fall 2012 collection. Emma Hill really wanted this collection to be full of winter classics. With that said, luxurious winter styles made their way down the runway, such as heavy fur coats, cozy sweaters and comfy wool skirts. The color palette was rich, earthy, and natural… perfectly contrasted with vibrant pops of bright colors and Aztec-inspired “zig zag” prints. The collection was fanciful; the knits were brightly colored and patterned. There was great texture to the wools. Notably though, the collection had a really dreamy vibe that made it special. The highlighted trends this collection included fur, dreamy oversized silhouettes, Eskimo-like outwear and soft laces.
